Patient Care Technician - Psychiatry Department (Brooklyn, NY)

Position: Patient Care Technician

Department: Psychiatry - 8W Nursing

Location: 1545 Atlantic Avenue, Interfaith, Brooklyn, NY 11213

Start Date: May 5, 2025

Schedule: 5x8 shifts (Night and Evening shifts available)

Hours per Week: 40 hours

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide direct patient care with compassion and professionalism, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and assisting with personal care needs.
• Prepare and assist patients with meals, feeding as needed.
• Collect specimens and handle tasks like emptying bedpans.
• Perform patient transfers using various techniques and assistive devices, including a Hoyer Lift.
• Accurately take and record vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration).
• Assist patients with mobility, walking, and transporting by wheelchair or stretcher.
• Perform range of motion (ROM) exercises and support overall patient well-being.
• For point-of-care testing, check reagent expiration dates and perform quality assurance on glucometers.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
• Certifications: Certificate from an approved Patient Care Technician (PCT) program with EKG and phlebotomy skills; Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
• Experience: Prior experience in psychiatric care preferred; experience in performing patient care tasks.
• Skills: Ability to perform routine tasks under various conditions, strong communication skills, and physical capability to assist with patient transfers and mobility.
• Physical Requirements: This role involves routine exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue. Ability to lift and move patients as required.
