Job Description

Position Summary

Publishing Coordinator is responsible for all production functions to produce quality products within time and budget constraints.

Specific Responsibilities

Perform production tasks for assigned production projects:

  • coordinating content assets using a content management system (document submission, component, and web)
  • copy editing books, journals, magazines, and online databases
  • editing images (resizing, scaling, cropping) for web and print, editing markup languages (xml and html)
  • tagging content for composition, composing pages of books, final programs, datasheets
  • responding to and resolving a wide range of queries from authors, editors, and publishing partners, coordinating author and editor reviews of page proofs
  • proactively corresponding with authors, editors, and publishing partners to ensure that deadlines are met
  • optimizing pdfs, adding metadata, and uploading to online publishing content management system
  • converting source documents for web publishing (ebooks and downloadable documents)
  • proofreading and verifying accuracy of content for web and print
  • archiving electronic and hard copy assets
  • coordinating distribution of published content to Library of Congress, abstracters, and indexers

Ensure ASM standards and styles are met and products are high quality by using provided tools: product standard operating instructions, ASM style guide, The Chicago Manual of Style, Associated Press Stylebook, composition specifications.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Proven command of editing and/or proofreading skills required.
  • Working knowledge of publication processes and procedures is essential.
  • Ability to work across teams with a variety of projects and workflows is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing is essential. Solid command of the English language is required.
  • College degree preferred and a minimum three years of publishing experience is required or a combination of education and experience.
  • Practical experience with a variety of software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access); Adobe Creative Suite (PhotoShop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Bridge, and Dreamweaver).
  • Current project management and organizational skills are essential.
  • Understanding of and familiarity with taxonomy and metadata used to support internal processes and user experiences.
